Why do you have to increase Mounjaro dose?

When starting Mounjaro you must start on the lowest dose – 2.5mg – to minimise side effects and reduce the risk of an adverse reaction. Gradual dose escalation allows your body to adjust, so that you can continue to take the medication without any problems.

There are a few reasons why you might want to increase your dose of Mounjaro.

  • You may find that your appetite isn’t suppressed enough to help you lose weight.
  • You may be able to tolerate the medication well and want to increase your appetite suppression to lose weight more effectively.
  • You may find that the appetite suppression effects of your current dose wear off before your next dose is due.
It’s important to remember that there is no universal “correct” way to titrate up or stay on the same dose. However there is a maximum speed of increase; you should not increase the dose by more than 2.5mg in one month (4 weeks). Remember that people are different, and respond to medication differently. Not everyone needs the maximum dose of Mounjaro (15mg) to reach and/or maintain their goal weight. It should always be a decision based on discussion between you and your clinician, and it should be based on your personal situation and medical history.

Important Notes: your provider will only increase the dose if needed and if you tolerate the medication well; the prescribing clinician has the final say on what dose(s) can be prescribed; and the maximum dose is 15mg; you can only increase your dose by a maximum of 2.5mg every 4 weeks.
