Who can take Mounjaro?
Mounjaro can often be prescribed for:
- people aged 18-75 who have tried traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise without achieving significant results.
- those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or over (classified as obese) or those with a BMI of 27 or over (classified as overweight) who also have weight-related health issues such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or sleep apnea.
Who should not take Mounjaro?
There are multiple reasons why Mounjaro may not be suitable for some people, including:
- people with a known allergy to tirzepatide or any of the ingredients in Mounjaro
- those with certain medical conditions or who are taking medications that interact negatively with Mounjaro should not use it. This includes people with a history of pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, or thyroid cancer. Mounjaro can also interact negatively with some oral contraceptives, so a barrier should also be used.
- patients taking insulin will need to seek specialist advice before taking Mounjaro.
- those under 18 years of age or over 75 years old.
